Nyaya Health recently presented a poster at Brown University during the Global Health and Water symposium held on 10 October 2010. Based on Nyaya’s experience developing a water system for Bayalpata Hospital, Nyaya’s poster highlighted three domains: infection control, health systems development, and strengthening local infrastructure. Working in a water-scarce region like Achham, we had to consider challenges such as water access, natural obstacles, the environment, and regional politics while developing a clean water system that addressed these domains. Additionally, we found that partnerships with local communities and stakeholders to establish clean water systems enabled broader health systems development and community strengthening. We believe that the lessons learned through community engagement in the development of Bayalpata Hospital’s water system could be considered by other organizations working in similar settings. Please see the poster below for details about Nyaya’s presentation.
