Dear friends,
One year ago, Nyaya joined with the Nepali Ministry of Health and Population to open the Bayalpata Hospital and enhance health services to the Achham region. It’s been a humbling and amazing year, and we’ve had many successes. Many of these have been written about on our blog, and in and in commemoration of our first anniversary, we wanted to share with you – who have made this work possible – a few of the highlights:
- June 2009: Opening the first hospital in the area, after operating the first health center
- July/August 2009: Treating a diarrheal outbreak and effects of a prolonged drought
- September 2009: Developing our (still growing!) mortality review program
- Winter 2009-2010: Forming a partnership with CIWEC Clinic and other organizations
- January 2010: Developing an ambulance service for the region
- March 2010: Developing a partnership with Partners in Health
- May 2010: Enhancing energy resources in the area
- June 2010: Currently implementing the first x-ray services in the area
There are still huge challenges in front of us, and many new hurdles on the horizon as we move into our second year. Nyaya will keep striving, working not only for health equity in Achham, but for the global health field and the belief that health is a basic and fundamental human right. We are inspired and deeply grateful for your continued support, solidarity, and inspiration, and look forward to continue walking this journey together.
