In 2009 the Indian Embassy to Nepal generously donated an ambulance to Nyaya Health.
Nyaya’s ambulance program serves two primary objectives:
- Patient transfers – for those patients too ill to be treated at Bayalpata Hospital, the ambulance can provide transfer to other regional hospitals better equipped to provide care
- Personnel transfer – in situations where a healthcare provider is needed to visit a patient in the community the ambulance may be used
In accordance with local District Health Office regulations, ambulance services are not provided for free. However, in line with Nyaya’s belief that health care is a basic and fundamental human right, Nyaya will subsidize ambulance costs for those patients unable to afford transport. The fee schedule for ambulance transport to various locations can be viewed here and sliding scale fees are at the discretion of the health provider team.
In the future Nyaya hopes to expand to patient transport from the community to the hospital,.
As with all programs, Nyaya aims to share its protocols, data and lessons-learned, to further the development of best practices in the global health field. Further information about our ambulance program can be found here.
